Here Is How You Can Be a Healthy Gamer

Gaming once took the world by storm, and has continued to remain a constant source of attraction, and even obsession, for many people. While everything is good in moderation, how do you satisfy your craving for continuous gaming, and still remain healthy? Keep reading to find out how.

• Know how to put first things first – Gaming only become unhealthy when it starts to creep into and disrupt other areas of your life. No matter how hardcore your gaming addiction is, it can still remain a healthy passion instead of becoming an unhealthy obsession, as long as you remain clear about your priorities. Certain things like family and friends, a full time job, and health, should never be compromised upon.

• Take care of your body – You can remain a healthy gamer so long as you do not let your passion throw you off schedule. Gaming late into the night, or all through until sunrise, may be acceptable every once in a while. However, when that becomes the norm, and you begin you overlook your healthy habits in order to continue gaming, then that spells trouble.

• Be an active gamer – This is a very important technique. Gaming on your consoles for hours on end can cause you to slip into the trap of leading a sedentary lifestyle. While it is a good thing that your brain is kept active by the gaming, it is essential to keep yourself physically active as well. This can be achieved by taking short breaks at regular intervals, and using these breaks to take a walk, or to do a couple of exercises.

• Stand tall – While most games that are played on the computer require the gamer to be seated, it would be fun to try gaming with consoles so that you can stand when you play. This is an exercise by itself. Also, you can shuffle your feet this way and that to remain physically active when you are seriously gaming.

• Drink to the game – Of course, we do not mean alcohol! It would be a healthy practice to take care of your body’s fluid requirements, by drinking water at regular intervals when you game. Fresh juices or other healthy drinks are also a good choice. This, instead of the common junk of chips and fast food that we normally opt for, will kickstart you on your journey to be a healthy gamer. It is one of the important things to remember.

Minecraft – Introduction to Redstone

If you have spent any length of time within the Minecraft world, you will be familiar with the common mineral, redstone. Redstone is the “wiring” in Minecraft used to connect one contraption to another, your power source within the game.

How do you get it? Naturally, of course! You can mine for redstone ore underground as with most materials in Minecraft. That ore will turn into redstone upon breaking it with an iron pickaxe or better. However, you can also acquire it from killing a witch, looting a temple in the jungle, or trading with a villager.

Once you have your redstone in hand, you are ready to experiment with its’ possibilities. At the most basic level of gameplay, if you need a little portable light within the game, all it takes is redstone and a stick to craft a redstone torch. Want to provide constant light to your Minecraft home? Combine redstone and glowstone to make a lamp, keeping the darkness at bay… and all of the creatures that come with it.

Redstone is used for powering various sorts of gadgets. You’ll want to be familiar with several fundamental items. In the trigger category you find buttons and levers, as well as pressure plates. Buttons send a redstone signal upon being pressed, while levers function more like light switches. A pressure plate each side of a door can allow it to open as you enter and then close behind you, triggered by your weight as you step on and off again.

Two kinds of pistons also exist in the Minecraft world: regular and sticky. Regular pistons push a block one step forward and then leaves it there, whereas sticky pistons attach to the block and can thus push or pull it. You can use those to make doors, elevators, secret entrances and so on.

Repeaters, as you might guess, repeat the redstone signal: one placed after the first fifteen blocks of redstone will extend your signal’s reach for another fifteen blocks.

So, what can you do with all of these buttons, levers, pressure plates, pistons and repeaters? The sky is literally the limit. You might decide to make piston-controlled waterfalls, secret trapdoors, music machines, clocks, and even rollercoasters. If you want to get really fancy, try assembling a number of gadgets and contraptions into a Rube Goldberg Machine. Feeling lazy? Redstone can even power up automatic farming and mining machines as well.

Redstone can also enhance the brewing of potions. Combining redstone dust and a water bottle will give you the Mundane Potion, while adding the dust to a number of other potions (e.g. Potion of Night Vision, Water Breathing, or Invisibility) will increase their duration.

As you can see, redstone will provide the power source for many of your Minecraft creations and adventures. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination!

Multiple Games And Multiple Mash-Ups

Mario has become a global icon to the likes of Mickey Mouse. This is no lucky shot though because to this day Mario is always a top contender for a game of the year award on any dedicated video game website. Over the years, unlike his competitors (Sonic, Toe Jam & Earl, and Boogerman) he was able to evolve through the years. In many ways Mario is Nintendo spanning across hundreds of games, dozens of genres, and selling over a billion of copies worldwide. Interestingly enough the top ten rated video games include Mario three times, not including the originals when released.

That is not Nintendo’s only celebrating mascot, much like Disney, Nintendo thrives on their variety of characters. They have Link a sword wielding hero from “The Legend of Zelda” series, Star Fox a brave space pilot from the “Star Fox” series, Samus an alien fighter from the Metroid Prime series, Donkey Kong a giant ape from the Donkey Kong series, and many more. It is insane how many characters that Nintendo does own and to this day they are still creating more. All of these characters have been in multiple games and multiple mash-ups that show them competing with one another. These mash-up happened years before the Avengers hit movie theaters, showing that Nintendo is ahead of their game in more ways than one. They have been releasing new consoles at around a 5 year span going from the Nintendo Entertainment System, to the Super Nintendo, to Nintendo 64, to Gamecube, to Wii, now finally to the Wii U. Each experience has been different and fresh letting the players play the games in a brand new way.

The games were fantastic and the consoles were improvements over one another. It is fun to describe the consoles and talk about the games, but the only way to actually understand all of this is to play a Nintendo console. Years after the release of the first Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo is still hitting homeruns to this day. They are fun to play, families will get together around a television set just to play some of their favorite mascots. This is something that cannot be said about the competitors. If Nintendo keeps this innovations going they will be creating games for the next century and onward when we are finally introduced to fully interactive 3D worlds. Do not be surprised if Nintendo is behind this innovative technology.

Minecraft – Introduction to Farming

Farming constitutes a valuable way to obtain supplies for your Minecraft adventures. Now before you think it’s a simple “go and grow” like you might find on well-known game apps, you may want to consider a few things.

Plant Farming

You first have to craft a hoe (in survival mode) or find one in the tools tab (in creative mode), then find a patch of grass to begin your farm. Right-click there to begin. Once it becomes rows of dirt that look like farmland, take a seed you’ve found – either from destroying trees and other plants in survival mode or finding them in the materials tab in creative mode – then right-click where you want to plant your seed. You will then see very small buds. To make your plants grow naturally, surround the field with a channel of water; an average time for full growth on water alone is 5-10 minutes. You are free to continue gameplay in the meanwhile and return to see your plants when you are ready. If you want them to grow faster, you can apply some bonemeal (from the bones of destroyed skeletons). Right-click the plant to apply that bonemeal, and voilà! Depending on the size of the plant (e.g. grass vs. tree), it takes 1-5 clicks for instantaneous growth.

Once the plant is grown, it is ready for harvest. Destroy the plant to make the produce drop. Some plants that can be grown are sugarcane, wheat, pumpkins, and carrots. Some plants have fun special features; for example, you can make a jack-o-lantern out of a pumpkin and wear it on your head!

Mob Farming

Mob farming is more complicated than plant farming. The purpose of mob farming is not to grow plants but rather to “grow” a group of enemies that upon “birth” will die automatically, providing you with the items they will drop. Sounds gruesome, but in reality the characters “grown” or spawned just fall over and disappear, leaving behind valuable items such as ender pearls (which can be used for finding end portals), bones (which can be used for bonemeal or to train a dog), or string (for bows and arrows).

The first thing you need to do is find a good design, which won’t be covered in this article (your best bet is to do an online search to find a design you prefer). One method that tends to work well is water + cliff. An essential component of mob farming is a completely dark enclosure, as any dark place within the world of Minecraft spawns enemy characters such as endermen and zombies, so keep that in mind as you start to explore the intricacies of mob farming. You will need to choose a location that can provide complete darkness, such as going underground or ocean caves, or a nocturnal time within gameplay.

Whether you prefer the more peaceful possibilities of farming plants, or the more adventurous world of spawning mobs for their dropped items, farming will be an important part of your Minecraft experience. For more great tips and guides, check out

Getting a Job As a Game Tester

For those who were born in the late eighties and early nineties, you’ve probably dreamed of getting a job as a game tester, especially when you were younger. The birth of the computer during this era could have influenced that way of thinking. Also, the opportunity and privilege of playing video games to earn money doesn’t even seem like a hectic job at all. In fact, it’s like the perfect employment opportunity for most. Just think about it, don’t you want to earn while doing something you love?

Though, just like what they always say, not everything in the garden is rosy, and that applies on game tester jobs too.

So, if you’re here because you’re thinking of being a game tester, it’s important to be aware of the real deal– not personal fantasies, myths, and what you want to believe in. With that, here are some of the rarely discussed facts about game tester jobs:

1) Your experience in playing video games is just a small component.

In order to get through this field, it’s important to have a formal training and continuous experience related to game testing. If you’re thinking that the experience you’ve gained in playing video games will be more than enough and can help you become successful, you’re wrong.

The experience you get from playing has some value, but game testing is more than that. Thus, this is an introduction that will give you an idea on what you’re supposed to do.

2) Your ability will define you.

As a game tester, you should be capable of performing your job efficiently. Your long list of accomplishments way back in college, or being a programming whiz at the age of 15, would mean nothing to your superiors. Why? Even if you’re a programming genius at the age of 12, this doesn’t mean that you also have the skills needed to track down the bugs in a game.

In this situation, if you want to prove yourself, you must show your superiors that you are capable of pinpointing the bugs that may arise within a specific segment of the game.

Likewise, don’t expect that you’ll be assigned to the whole game. Instead, you’ll have to deal with a certain segment that you must work on and observe if there are any bugs on this segment. This is how you’re going to be scrutinized.

3) A certificate says a lot.

If you’re really determined to work as a game tester, then it’s advisable to take courses related to it– so that you’ll have something to support your ability once your apply. You cannot impress the employers by simply telling them that you’ve spent half of your life reading books about game testing. The harsh reality is that, no one will even pay attention to that, and even if it’s true that you really did, there’s still a high chance that you’ll go home feeling rejected and incapable.

So, as a precautionary measure, be prepared.

4) Being a professional is not enough.

Lastly, if you’re really determined in making your superiors impressed, here’s what you should do: Aside from being a professional game tester, you must also convince them that you have a true passion for video games. This will help you rise in ranks as a game tester.

Overall, being a game tester is not really a promising job, especially in video game production. For one, the supply in this position is quite high, that if someone resigns or gets fired, finding a replacement will not even take a week. So, if you’re really dreaming of standing above the rest, better show your everyone, especially your superiors, that you’re more than just an average game tester.

Where to Download Games Online – A Must Read For All Gamers

Almost all gamers are looking for sources where they can download games online without going broke. Since everyone is keen and dying to know where they can do so pretty safely without worrying about downloading viruses, adware and spyware, and of course bursting their wallets, I decided to share some resources in this article about the most popular online game downloads sites today. Be sure to check out my resource link at the end of the article for the ultimate gaming site to download games online.

Here are 3 sites I have checked out. One thing to note is that most games can be downloaded but they are not in full version or there is a time limit tagged to it. In other words, to get the full version game downloads, you do have to subscribe. Then again, there are hundreds to thousands of games and you can simply move from playing one to another. And if you really love the game so much, consider joining them. It doesn’t cost you more than $20 for monthly subscriptions.

Shockwave.com is not new to gamers seeking the thrills of online games. According to the site, there are more than 60,000 players online at the point I visited. This is not an easy feat to achieve. In fact, more than 20 million people visit the site every month to download games online there or simply just play them online. This site offers 400 over games from sports, action, adventure, puzzles, shooting, jigsaws and word games. These top hits are also top sellers.

Shockwave has a premium service called Shockwave Unlimited which allows subscribers to download over 300 games online. There is also a 10 day free trial. This offers basically full version game downloads with absolutely no time limit.

Next, we have Miniclip.com. This game site allows you to download games online like sports, multiplayer, action, puzzles, flash games and so on. What is impressive about this site is that the games are updated quite frequently so you can never get bored here. Some game titles like 3 Foot Ninja, 3 Foot Ninja II, Alien Attack, Bush Aerobics, Disc Golf, Sub Commander, Hostile Skies and Family Feud are popular games here.

The third site where you can download games online is GameHouse.com. You get games like Little Shop of Treasures 2, Mortimer Beckett and the Secrets of Spooky Manor, SCRABBLE, MONOPOLY HERE & NOW EDITION, Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos and many more. The paid option which costs $19.95 a month allows you to download all FunPass games, total of 300 over. There is no time limit and these are all full version game downloads. And yes, there is a free trial for 7 days.

These are just the more popular game download sites you can find online. Of course, as I mentioned earlier, there is one more gaming site I do not wish to miss mentioning. Check out my games blog if you are keen to download games online for less than pennies.
